Mid-Term Newsletter
It’s hard to believe that we are already two months back to school and it’s now time for Halloween Midterm Break! The new pupils have really found their feet and have settled into school life. It has been a very busy two months with lots of work and fun activities! Let’s take a look back at everything that has gone on.
Firstly, our new Infants have been ‘buddied up’ with a senior pupil and meet regularly for all kinds of activities. It’s always lovely to see the children bond over the course of the year.
The younger pupils have been having weekly GAA sessions with Aran Whelan, our school coach, meanwhile the older children have just completed a very successful course of seven swimming lessons in Kells Pool.
Cumann na mBunscol GAA matches have resumed with our lads suffering narrow defeats to Whitehall N.S. & Ballynacarrigy N.S.
Over 40 children from our school travelled to the Westmeath Schools Cross Country at Belvedere. We were delighted that Michael, Daniel & Alex came home with medals for their efforts in tough conditions.
Big thanks to Edel for all her Zumba sessions. They always puts a smile on everyone's faces!
More Bits & Bobs
We now have a fabulous new school shop on the KC Sports website. There’s lots of cool gear to choose from - some nice Christmas present options perhaps!
There has been lots of amazing work going on in all this classes. 1st & 2nd have just finished up station teaching. These intensive literacy sessions have really helped the pupils to develop their reading & writing skills.
There has been project work among the senior classes on topics such as Space & Black History Month. Some classes have been working on STEM challenges to design and create back scratchers & stationery holders. Incredible creativity displayed as usual! We’ve also gotten great use out of our iPads for Maths Trails, interactive games & Kahoot quizzes to name but a few of the ways they’ve gotten utilised.
Recently during Maths Week pupils from 3rd to 6th classes attended workshops in the Technological University of the Shannon, Athlone. Lots of fun maths plus a robotic dog made this a very memorable experience!
The corridors of St. Ernan’s are looking superb thanks to all fabulous work the pupils have produced over the past two months. Maith sibh!
Our new school website has gone live and looks top notch. Thank you to Mr. Brennan for all his hard work to develop it.
We ended this half term with a wonderful whole school trip to Belvedere House & Gardens. A great spot all year round but especially in Autumn when the world around us is looking so beautiful.
Finally have a very happy & safe Halloween. See you all on November 6th!
